Prep Sessions Outstanding & Overwhelming! Record Number BHSMCers Attend, Almost 100-- Congrats!
96 BHSMCers attended prep session on Monday, November 3rd and 99 came on Wed the 5th, both record attendances for BHS MC
All rooms ran very smoothly creating, presenting, and debating bills for the upcoming Princeton and Yale MCs -- thanks and applause must be made to the impressive leadership of Senior Prezs Bishop, Rimm, Ruddy, Dextradeur, Mockus, Altrui, and Emery and VP Rabin.
Next week meetings are Monday 10th, 7:15--9:00, (No school Tuesday, Veterans Day) and Wed 12 (half day, teacher workshops), 7:15--9:00. The Yale Debate team is coming and presenting and coaching us Wed night on our opening speeches and debating, try not to miss this night. Would be nice to hit 100 BHSMCers one or both of these two nights. Thurs 13th will be the final fall meeting for PMCers, who will be leaving the following Wed 19th for DC.
Opening Speeches and Fact Sheets should be focus for bhsmcers these last weeks. Power Facts and personal, emotional connections, persuasively and enthusiastically presented, make a difference, so spend some time researching, organizing, outlining, and practicing them. Email both OS & FS to Petela -- it will impress him very much. This takes some serious focus and grinding, so buckle down, roll up sleeves, grind elbows into table, put on game face, and just do it, and do it well. Be like BenF & TJeff
Yale MCers will meet Tues 25th 5:30--6:45 before the dance, and December 1 & 2 nights, 7:15--8:30, with YMConference beginning Thursday 4th.
Permission/Info packets for Princeton coming next week. Yale's coming soon after, most likely Thanksgiving week. Website should have current info documents for both Princeton and Yale by this weekend, check out. Deposits still missing for many -- please try to bring in ASAP.
Penn (24 spots, juniors) and Harvard (35 spots, seniors--frosh) spots filling fast. Need to know ASAP, preferably by next week, who can go. Seniors and Juniors first choices. Then will open to sophs and frosh. Deposit of $50-100 guarantees spot.
Keep up the great effort, focus, grinding, and game faces Very impressed by many so far. Looking forward to the final meetings, and even more so to the conferences. We have many potential award winners, and a legacy from last years record award winners at PMC. Keep the eyes on the prize, and good things like gavels will come...

Happy Halloween Week -- Meetings Tues & Wed night, 7:15--8:30, All Welcome
Sorry Monday meeting cancelled, just overloaded with end of quarter grades and many early decision recommendations. Meetings this week will begin bill practice for those Princeton MCers who have done and submitted their bill on time last Friday/Weekend. Those who still have not submitted their bills, please get with the program and get them done this week, email to me ASAP and also to PMC. You've had over two weeks to do, very disappointing to say the least, especially the officers -- not weigh well come pro-demotion time... Also don't forget your deposits of $200.
Yale MCers, this week and next focus will be to finish bills and also jump in on Princeton bill debates. For your bills you need to go to Yale website and follow their bill submit link which they told me is now working and ready to receive bills. There is also opportunity to be in Press Corp program if you are interested, just email them with a few words about yourself and your passion for writing/journalism and you should get in. This would take the place of your committee. Same goes with their Presidential Cabinet -- if you are up to the challenge, email YMC and request to be a member, citing your experience and interest -- Patty Liu last year well represented Branford in Cabinet. Also, your deposits of $50 are due ASAP, don't forget.
Finally, all other members are welcomed to come and join in the bill practice sessions -- see veteran bhsmcers in action presenting and debating their bills. Senior Prez/VPs will chair classrooms of delegates. Petela will divide and portion out members to classrooms. Your actions and attitude will be observed and noted, so be on best behavior with best game faces and try to impress chairs and Petela with some good speeches, questions, points, motions etc.
Hope to see many of you this week. Next week meetings are Monday and Wed night, in between Election Tuesday. All of you should have received an orange handout in the mail by today with updated info, if you didn't come see me for copy.
Trick or Treat y'all -- Petela

Princeton MCers Bills Due Ideally This Friday 23rd & Depo$sit200$ Too
Great week last week for bhsmc, about 30 Senior and Junior PMC & YMCers came each Tues & Wed night, signing up for committees and working on their bills, and a whopping 70 bhsmcers came on Thurs, which included sophs for the first time. (See Photo gallery for Fall Prep Sessions 08). PMCers if you want your bill to make the official PMC Conference Bill Book you should submit by Wed night (send to my email w/ attached doc title ex RimmPMC08bill). If you don't get it in by Wed night chances of making PMC official book go down, as told to me by PMC admin. So do your best to do and get in, it would impress and please me very much Also, don't forget to bring your first deposit of $200 this week, if you can pay in full that is always welcomed, if money is an issue pay what you can and we can work out an extended payment schedule. Scholarship money is also an option, have your parents write/email me a note.
Yale Model Congress your bills are due by Friday Nov 7th, so you have some time, but the sooner the better. Be sure to have one of the MC officers, preferably Senior Prez cabinet or VPs, check your bill and give feedback. Also your depo$its of $50 due this week.
Everyone should also be working on a Fact sheet(s) filled w/ significant info on your bill -- this I also want submitted to me the week before conference -- this will really impress me and also really help you come conference time.
After this week of final bill writing meetings on Tues, Wed, & Thurs night (when frosh MCers are invited for first time), we will begin next week w/ meetings practicing our bills, led by Senior Prez cabinet, who will be chairing rooms of mixed mc-ers.
Finally, Thurs night we may have a couple members of the Yale Debate team come to talk to us about Debate, and offer us an incredible opportunity to learn and practice some debate skills. Also, next weekend Yale is hosting a big time national debate tourney and would love to have some high school kids help out, hint hint bhsmcers officers -- Friday from 3-- 10 and Saturday all day/night, of course you don't have to work all time, but a few hours each day would be a great learning experience. More on this Tues night.
Hope to see all/most of you this week at the meetings, till then stay focused and grinding, and of course happy -- Petela
